Revista IDeAS – Interfaces in Development, Agriculture and Society is a scientific journal of peer review, free access and continuous publication maintained since 2007 by students of the Graduate Program of Social Sciences in Development, Agriculture and Society (CPDA) of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). Original theoretical articles and/or research results and reviews of relevant and recent books in the areas of Social, Human and Agrarian Sciences are accepted.

Goals. IDeAS is a journal that aims to disseminate scientific knowledge produced in universities and other research institutions. It aims to encourage debate and the circulation of information about the "rural world", at the interface between development, agriculture and society. IDeAS also aims to promote exchanges with other university institutions and scientific associations in the area and guarantee space for publications by graduate students in the areas of Social, Human and Agrarian Sciences. We seek to publish relevant and recent works in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Target Audience. The journal is aimed at researchers from the "rural world" and other possible people interested in related topics, such as members of development agencies (governmental or not), public agents, civil society organizations and students of graduate programs in related areas.

Thematic and scope. The topics of interest of Revista IDeAS correspond to the main research lines of CPDA-UFRRJ. Therefore, the main research topics that can be sent to the journal are:
Studies of Culture and Rural World - analyzes of cultural dynamics in rural contexts, with culture understood as systems of values, symbols and forms of language in dispute that produce discourses, political communities and new subjects of rights;
Institutions, markets and regulation - studies on the themes of development, institutions, markets, business strategies and consumer behavior, taking into account the reorganization of public-private relations and the patterns of articulation of interests.
Conflicts, social movements and political representation - studies of the diversity of forms and meanings assumed by social conflicts and collective actions, as well as the forms of political representation associated with them, as well as the social dynamics that build social and political identities.
Public policies, the State and social actors - approaches to the role of the State and social actors in the development processes, in the political-institutional dynamics and in the formulation and implementation of public policies, at national and international levels. Questioning the analysis and evaluation of policies including actions in the spheres of the Legislative and Judiciary branches, as well as changes in the institutional environment itself, in a context marked by conflicts and negotiations.
Nature, science and knowledge - analyzes of nature/society relationships from the perspective of socio-environmental conflicts, State and Market policies for nature management, the production of scientific and local knowledge about the natural and social world, prioritizing the analysis of interaction between natural agencies and socio-political agencies, as well as their impacts on the world-system.
Land, Power and Territory - studies of the relationships between land, territory, culture and power, considered as key dimensions of global geopolitics and local socio-political dynamics in the 21st century. Land and territory are the basis of a wide diversity of social, cultural and ethnic identities, and at the same time central factors in production chains and global economic development.

Who maintains Revista IDeAS?

The publication of Revista IDeAS is a collective effort of people and institutions.
In addition to the participation of students, the CPDA-UFRRJ Coordination and the Department of Development, Agriculture and Society (UFRRJ) contribute financially to the realization of this project, in addition to the administration of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). UFRRJ maintains IDeAS through the allocation of the journal's page on its internet servers, in addition to the support of administrative technicians and teachers.
The Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) also contributes to the maintenance of the journal through resources transferred to the coordination of CPDA-UFRRJ.
Action Aid Brasil, the Center for Agrarian Studies and Rural Development of the (extinct) Ministry of Agrarian Development (NEAD/MDA) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) also contributed to the journal.
Finally, we would like to thank João Roberto Ripper (www.imagenshumanas.com.br) for his kindness in arranging his photos for display on the journal's website.

Periodicity

Until volume 11, IDeAS maintained a semiannual periodicity. As of volume 12, Revista IDeAS started to adopt continuous publication. The journal organizes its articles for continuous publication in annual volumes that start in January and end in December of the same year.

Continuous publication is a form of publication aimed at online journals in which articles go through an individualized flow from submission to publication.
With continuous publication, articles do not need to wait for the publication of a closed volume/issue of the journal.
Each article has its own page numbering (starting at 1) and has a unique number that is its electronic identifier. This identifier is called elocation-id and is unique for each article published in the same volume, and created and controlled by the editors.
Revista IDeAS adopts the following elocation-id format: digit “e” + separator digit “0” + two final digits of the year “18” + separator digit “0” + sequential control digit (from 01 to total in the year) . Examples: e018001 (first continuous article of 2018), e018002 (second article of 2018).

With the adoption of the method of continuous publication, Revista IDeAS is following one of the trends of the international scientific community and seeks to speed up the availability of research, in addition to individually disclosing published works.
