The Tapajós logistics corridor, infrastructure investments and traditional people’s way of life

The article aims to reflect on the construction and consolidation of the Tapajós Logistics Corridor (connects Mato Grosso to Pará) as the main route for the export of commodities produced in the north of the state of Mato Grosso, as well as its relation with the ways of life of traditional peoples. To this end, through an extensive bibliographical review and analysis of newspaper reports, we analyzed the impacts and conflicts surrounding the construction and allocation of infrastructure that makes up the Tapajós Logistics Corridor, such as the Cuiabá-Santarém highway (BR-163); Ferrogrão (EF-170); and the Cargo Transshipment Stations installed in the municipality of Miritituba, on the banks of the Tapajós River. In this sense, we conclude that, despite the promises of development and wealth brought with the construction of the Logistics Corridors, it functions mainly as a fundamental element for the consolidation of new mechanisms of land accumulation and appropriation. Meanwhile, they change the logic of the territories, prioritizing the movement of goods to the detriment of the health, well-being and sociability of the affected people.
