The meaning of neoextractivism
the relationship between the State, Vale and social development in Canaã dos Carajás - PA

The article intends to reflect on the neo-extractivist model, according to which the state raises resources from large mining to use them in policies to reduce social inequalities. The analysis of this process took place on a municipal scale, through observation of the municipality of Canaã dos Carajás, the scene of large mining projects of the Vale company. Thus, I seek to gain elements that point to the link between the income captured by mining, with the level of social development of this municipality, which will be observed from the dynamics of production, labor market/income of residents and condition of access to land. The data handled in the text were obtained mainly from statistical sources available on both the IBGE and RAIS/Caged websites. In addition, a field trip was made in Canaã dos Carajás, through interviews and information in local agencies. The article is structured in three topics plus the conclusion.
