Food supply, food security and public policies for family farmers in the context of the new coronavirus pandemic – Interview with Catia Grisa (UFRGS)

Abstract

With the countless impacts of the new coronavirus pandemic (SARS-CoV-2), worldwide, researchers from all areas of knowledge began to reflect and analyze the consequences of this event that has already marked this century and, mainly, how we will emerge from all that. Among the issues that have been most concerned are the guarantee of food supply and food security. It is in this context that Revista IDeAS invited researcher Catia Grisa to analyze the effects of the pandemic on family farming, a fundamental sector to guarantee the food of the Brazilian population. Grisa analyzes the trajectory of public policies for family farming in the pre-pandemic period, changes in the scope of consumption and access to food, possible innovations in public policies, the post-pandemic scenario and how the dynamics of work in research during that period. With this initiative, we seek to contribute to the circulation of information and the debate about facing the adversities caused by the new coronavirus.
