A obra de Martins A aparição do demônio na fábrica discute as contradições para a implementação da sociedade industrial no Brasil. A reação das mulheres, operárias paulistas, às interferências exógenas do capital moderno será o principal mote da pesquisa. O texto discute as mudanças na sociedade e as transformações no campo operário, a partir do enfoque que faz das manifestações de possessão, dos sacrifícios e rituais tomados como “exóticos” e que ocorrem na linha de produção industrial.
