Challenges and opportunities in the Apis mellifera L. honey production chain

Supply chains are complex systems susceptible to a variety of limiting factors. Investigating these elements within the honey production chain is essential for its development. In this context, the present study aimed to review scientific works that explored challenges and opportunities in production chains, with a particular focus on those related to honey chains, employing the Methodi Ordinatio methodology. A significant growth in the number of scientific productions in these areas over time was observed. However, it was found that specific studies on honey chains have lower indices of scientific relevance. The highest relevance indices in studies on chains in general were attributed to the data analysis methodologies adopted. In light of these findings, there is a need for improvement in research on the challenges and opportunities of honey production chains, possibly through the adoption of more robust data analysis methods.
