Critical reflexions on (un)sustainable development

The concept of sustainable development, armed with the idea of reconciling the economy and human aspirations with sustainability, spread around the world after 1987, with the report “Our Common Future”. It so happens that, since then, no environmental advances have been glimpsed, quite the opposite. The disclosure that we are experiencing an environmental crisis due to the surpassing of the planet's ecological footprint is what is propagated in contemporary scientific documents. Therefore, this article aims to critically analyze the assumptions of sustainable development. Therefore, a new paradigm that respects the sustainability of the planet is requested. The research methodology used is qualitative exploratory based on literature review and also on recent environmental scientific documents. The importance of writing is given to scientists as a whole, as living in an ecologically balanced environment not only surpasses a legal projection, but also interferes with the quality of life of all human beings.
